Hyderabad: Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy today asked two-wheeler users to use helmets and avoid accidents. The Transport department should improve online services to reach the people and check illegal movement of private vehicles and violation of norms by other vehicles, he directed.
At a review meeting with RTA officials here, the minister discussed on various issues, including to strengthen the department which has to focus on achieving revenue from Rs 18000 crore to Rs 20000 crore. Mahender Reddy directed the officials to take steps to prevent accidents by regulating traffic, putting up dividers, speed breakers and use technology and zebra crossing marks for pedestrians.
Expressing concern over the accidents, the minister said wearing helmets was easy way to avoid accidents. The State government will allot Rs 50 crore for construction of new buildings for RTA and new check-posts will be set up all over the State, he said. The minister said steps will be taken to fill all vacant posts in the Transport department and improve facilities in 95 bus depots. (NSS)
