US welcomes improvement in Indo-China ties

Washington, April 08: US on Thursday welcomed the improvement in bilateral relations between India and China saying it values dialogue between the two giant Asian nations after an agreement was signed by both sides to establish a hotline between their Premiers.

The agreement to set-up a hotline was signed by External Affairs Minister SM Krishna and his Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi in Beijing today.

“I think we value dialogue, particularly in Asia, but this is a matter between, the governments of China and India,” the Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs, P J Crowley, told reporters here.

“We certainly think that any mechanism that allows, two important countries that are neighbours and vitally important to global security and the economy should have appropriate mechanisms to communicate whenever they feel the need,” Crowley said in response to a question.
