Washington, May 23: US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has called for Chinese cooperation with American companies, saying the US deserves “fair access” to the Chinese market.
Speaking in Shanghai a day before the start of high-level talks called “Strategic and Economic Dialogue,” Clinton said American companies want to compete in China.
“They want to sell goods made by American workers to Chinese consumers with rising incomes and increasing demand. This is a win-win for our two countries,” Clinton explained on Sunday.
Clinton is in China for economic discussions at a time that the European debt crisis has raised fears that the global recession recovery could stall.
Topics to be discussed at the two-day cabinet-level talks would range from a US demand for a reform of the yuan currency, to increasing American sanctions on Chinese products and on the other hand, China restricting US and other foreign businesses.
