US varsity to enroll more city students

Hyderabad, February 23: With over 80 Indian students on-campus, mostly in management and technology courses, the Pittsburg State University (PSU) is looking for more city students.

Although the university is not considering setting up a campus in India, placements have started looking up after a lull of two years, said university officials.

With over 80 companies coming for campus placements this year, the varsity is looking at bringing more international students.

The university has 80 Indian students among a total of 500 international students. “Indian students mostly apply for technology and technology-related programmes. Management programmes are also becoming popular. According to our research, this is the silken valley of India, being an area which is highly focused on technology,” said Steven Alan Scott, president, Pittsburg State University.

The university started its India liaison office at Hyderabad a year back with an aim to assist students with information about the university, application processing, guidance on courses, visa and pre-departure guidance.

So far, 40 students (mostly from Hyderabad) have been assisted in their admission to PSU.

“All students services are offered free of charge to students. We help students to connect with current year students and find affordable lodging options,” explained Harish Baddepuram, PSU India liaison officer.

“The liaison office is meant to bring support service to students right at their doorstep. Also the India office helps us to find the right students,” added Scott.
