US urged to apologize to Egyptians

Washington, April 18: The secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council says the US should be ashamed of its decades-long support for Egyptian dictator Hosni Mubarak.

“Instead of interfering in Egypt’s affairs, today, the US should be ashamed [of its support for Mubarak] and apologize to the Egyptian people,” Saeed Jalili was quoted as saying in a statement released by the National Security Council.

Jalili made the remarks in a meeting with Secretary-General of Egypt’s Amal Party Magdi Hussein in the Iranian capital,Tehran, on Sunday.

The Iranian official also called on Egyptians to remain alert and continue the revolution until their ultimate demands are met.

“The power that has risen from the Islamic awakening promises to obliterate global oppression and tyranny; and the will of nations will defeat world powers,” Jalili went on to say.

Hussein for his part hailed the Islamic Republic’s achievements and said the 1979 Islamic Revolution of Iran had been an inspiration for the popular uprising in Egypt.
