An American high school student has reportedly opened fire at a school in Omaha in the State of Nebraska, killing the school assistant principal.
According to police, the student killed himself in a car just a mile away after fleeing the scene. The 17-year-old student gunman, Robert Butler, was son of a police detective in the major city of Omaha.
The principal of Millard South High School was also wounded by the armed student before fleeing the scene. No student, however, was injured in the incident as they were returning from a holiday break.
Butler was transferred in November from a high school in the City of Lincoln, southwest of Omaha.
Lincoln school officials declined to provide any details about Butler’s student file. But Lincoln Southwest High School Principal Rob Slauson said Butler was involved in few, if any, activities before transferring to the new school.
Jessica Liberator, a sophomre at Millard South High School, said she was in the cafeteria when another administrator “rushed in to tell everybody to get in the back of the kitchen.”
The shooter had warned about his violent plan on one of the social networking sites. The school on the west side of Omaha has about 2,100 students.
