US senators pass resolution stating Saudi Crown Prince was complicit in Khashoggi’s murder

Washington: Introducing a scathing resolution a group of US senators has condemned Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman for being “complicit” in the assassination of Saudi dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Republican senators introduced the non-binding resolution on Wednesday.

Vox.com has quoted Republican senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC) as saying, “This resolution — without equivocation — definitively states that the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia was complicit in the murder of Mr Khashoggi and has been a wrecking ball to the region jeopardizing our national security interests on multiple fronts.”

It must be noted that Trump administration officials, including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Secretary of Defense James Mattis, had said publicly that there is no definitive evidence or “smoking gun” connecting the Saudi crown prince to Khashoggi’s killing.

As reported by the Guardian, US senators, bent on punishing the Saudi crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, for the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, said on Thursday they want to vote next week to penalize Riyadh, but struggled to agree on how best to do so.
