‘US records Karzai’s phone calls’

Kabul, March 30: Dr. Zalmay Zabuli, a prominent Afghan senator made the remarks during an open session of senate attended by Afghan defense minister, intelligence officials and several other government authorities in Kabul, a Media correspondent reported.

Zabuli reiterated that the US forces have installed vey advanced communication tools in and around the sensitive government facilities, adding that they have spent at least 75 million dollars in a bid to infiltrate into communication network.

This comes months after a report indicating that CIA has multiple members of the Afghan government on its payroll in order to help it keep track of various factions within the Afghan government.

The developments come as differences continue to grow between Washington and Kabul over a number of issues. President Hamid Karzai has frequently accused Washington of meddling in Afghanistan’s internal affairs.

Karzai has also recently expressed his harsh criticism of US military policies in his country, calling for a reduction of military operations by the US-led forces that continue to impose a heavy toll on Afghan civilians, saying that Afghans are losing patience with the continued US presence that is worsening the war with the Taliban.

This situation is adding fuel to the fire of anti-US sentiment in Afghanistan and the rest of the Muslim world.

But senior US and NATO officials have signaled that foreign troops will remain in the country beyond 2014. Washington says the transition does not mean that Afghan forces will be in charge everywhere.

Over 150,000 foreign troops are stationed in Afghanistan.
