United Nations: The US President Barack Obama will open a high-level meeting on refugees in September 2016 at the United Nations, when world leaders will be here to attend the annual debate of the UN General Assembly.
Samantha Power, the US UN ambassador who holds the rotating council presidency for December, made the statement here on Monday as a massive influx of refugees were reported in Africa, the Middle East and Europe over the past months.
The US plan needs to be coordinated with the UN, which does not make response to it at the press time, Xinhua reported.
The US is one of the five permanent members of the 15-nation Security Council, the other four veto-wielding members are Britain, China, France and Russia.—IANS
