Baghdad: At least 801 civilians were killed during the US-led coalition operations targeted at the Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria in the past three years, the coalition forces said in a monthly report on Thursday.
The Civilian Casualty Report said that all these civilians were killed “unintentionally” by coalition strikes since the start of Operation Inherent Resolve and the coalition is still assessing another 695 reports on civilian casualties, Xinhua news agency reported.
The coalition conducted more than 28,000 strikes between August 2014 and October 2017, and coalition partners have returned more than 96 per cent of the IS-held land to local populations and governance, said the report.
Yet despite significant successes against the IS, the combat has taken a toll on populations suffering under the militants, added the coalition report.
The US-led international coalition against the IS includes US military forces and personnel from over 30 countries.
