‘US, KSA to return Saleh to Yemen’

Sanaa, August 08: A prominent political analyst says he believes Ali Abdullah Saleh will eventually return to Yemen with the help of his two major allies, the United States and Saudi Arabia.

“Right now the main powers with influence in Yemen, Saudi Arabia and the United States are making this happen in order to have regime stability. Saleh’s return will send a message to the revolutionaries that they have no options but to surrender,” said Ali al-Ahmed, director of the Institute for [Persian] Gulf Affairs (IGA), in an exclusive interview with Press TV on Sunday.

He added that Saleh is apparently able to secure the support of the United States and Saudi Arabia and other [P]GCC countries like Qatar and UAE in his bid to return.

“He might after that hand power to his son,” al-Ahmed said.

Saleh and five other high-ranking officials were evacuated to Saudi Arabia for medical treatment following a rocket attack on the Yemeni presidential palace on June 3.

On Saturday, a Saudi official said Saleh left hospital after receiving the necessary treatment and was taken to a temporary residence for a recovery period.

Yemeni demonstrators have been calling for the creation of an interim council to prevent the return of Saleh.

Hundreds of people have been killed and many more injured in the Middle Eastern country since the popular uprising began in late January as a result of the brutal crackdown on anti-government protests by military forces and bands of thugs loyal to Saleh.
