Hyderabad: “The United States is keen on working with the Telangana government in the field of renewable energy sector and willing to be a technological partner in the Green Hub Project in the State, Charles Rivkin, Assistant Secretary, Economic and Business affairs, United States Department has said.
A high-level Economic and Business delegation from the United States, led by Charles Rivkin, Assistant Secretary for Economic and Business Affairs, United States Department of State met Arvind Kumar, Principal Secretary, Industries and Commerce and Energy at the Secretariat on Thursday.
Arvind Kumar briefed the visitors about the energy sector in the State. He said the State has targeted to generate 2,500 MW solar power by the end of this year. The solar energy policy of the State government has been widely welcomed by the industrialists. Of the total 8000 MW of solar power finalized by the government of India, 2500 MW is from Telangana, he said, adding that in line with its support to technology entrepreneurs, the State was preparing to set up an incubation centre for renewable energy start-ups next year.
The Telangana government is joining hands with the Texas University, which would bring the requisite technical know-how, he said. He also dwelt upon various issues relating to renewable energy sector and the new set of challenges in the present scenario. He sought expertise of the US in the transportation and storage of solar power and how to make the solar roof top model cost-effective.
The members of the delegation said there are lots of opportunites to invest in India and appreciated the solar power policy of the State government. Brian Peck, Director In-charge of International Affairs and Business development for California said they were willing to work with the Telangana government on the Innovation hub. Ziad Haider, Special Representative for Commercial and Business Affairs, Urmila Venugopalan, Senior Advisor, Partha Mazumdar, senior Economic Officer, Jen Bauer, Staff Assistant, Members of the US-India business delegation, industry representatives from Telangana State participated in the meeting.
