US judge calls 9/11 victims pay-out deal as low

Washington, March 20: A US judge has rejected a proposed deal for a group of people who worked at New York’s Ground Zero following the September 11 attacks, saying the amount of compensation is not enough.

Some 10,000 rescue workers and police officers are suing New York City, saying they suffered health problems working in the dust and debris.

Federal Judge Alvin Hellerstein said that he does not think the agreement represents a sufficient sum of money. He also said further negotiations are needed.

Hellerstein also said that plaintiffs must be aware of how much money they will receive after legal fees.

On March 12th, New York City officials agreed to pay over 650 million dollars to compensate thousands of rescue and clean-up workers after the September-11 attacks.

The plaintiffs say they were made sick by dust at the Ground Zero site of the attacks.
