Even as the death roll in the Black Saturday’s devastating earthquake in the Himalayan Kingdom of Nepal began to rise with each passing day and has already touched the 3500 mark, geological experts of the United States fear that all was not over yet as “big ones yet to come”.
According to the website of the USGS (United States Geological Survey), experts who had already predicted more after shocks in the wake of Saturday’s killer tremors, fear that there are 54 percent chances of tremors of over 6 magnitude on the Richter Scale as after shocks.
The experts fear that there might be after shocks of greater magnitude of 5 or more on the Richter Scale in the following month and that there is a significant chance of ( over 50 percent) for after shocks of the magnitude of six and over in the Richter Scale taking place in the coming year, as per the website.
Mean while reports emanating from the Himalayan Kingdom said that rains and fresh tremors of minor magnitude added misery to the already devastated people of Nepal and also hampered rescue operations. Nepla’s capital Kathmandu turned into a ghost town with flattened homes and buildings. As the town was engulfed in darkness with no electricity supply, thousands of fear-stricken people spent sleepless nights under tents, shivering and trembling from cold and rumbling sounds of after shocks.(NSS)
