Mosul, April 29: Iraqi military forces have discovered an unmanned aerial vehicle, belonging to the US Army, among a cache of weapons and explosives in a depot in western Mosul.
“A force from the third division of the Iraqi army found on Wednesday a US unmanned aerial vehicle in a stockpile of weapons and explosives in al-Yarmouk neighborhood in western Mosul,” a military source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
The operation was carried out after the army received intelligence on the ammunition storage, which also contained a number of bombs and light weapons, the source added.
The army also arrested five wanted men in Mosul’s northern al-Jameaa neighborhood and al-Wehda in eastern parts of the city.
The capital of Nineveh province, Mosul lies 390 kilometers (242 miles) north of Baghdad.
The divided city is home to Shia and Sunni Muslims and Christians as well as Kurd and Turkmen communities and has been one of the most violent parts of Iraq in the aftermath of the US-led invasion of the country in 2003.
