Islamabad, August 11: In stepped up attacks, US drones today fired missiles at a Taliban training camp killing at least 10 militants in Pakistan”s lawless South Waziristan tribal region. This was the first drone attack after last Wednesday”s strike when CIA”s predators UAVs fired missiles and killed Pakistani Taliban commander Baitullah Mehsud in the same area.
In today”s attack the drone struck a target in Kanigram village in South Waziristan Agency, killing 10 Taliban militants, TV news channels reported. No further details were immediately available.
Pakistani and US officials have said they are certain that Mehsud, the chief of the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, was killed with his second wife and several bodyguards in a drone attack on his father-in-law”s compound at Makeen in South Waziristan early on July 5. However, Taliban commanders have claimed that Mehsud is alive and will appear before the media soon.
