US, Croatian terrorism suspects in court

Washington, March 11: Two suspected terrorists involved in a plot to murder a Swedish cartoonist who depicted the Prophet Mohammed with the body of a dog are set to appear in an Irish court today.

The Croatian man and American woman, revealed to be so-called “Jihad Jane” Colleen LaRose, could face extension of their detention periods as requested by Irish police.

Five others implicated by international investigators in the alleged Al Qaeda-ordered plot to kill Lars Vilks went before a special sitting of Ireland’s Waterford District Court on Wednesday.

A lawyer representing the three Algerians, one Palestinian and one Libyan in the hearing confirmed that their detention period was extended at the request of Irish police.

They could be held for an additional 72 hours of questioning, beginning this morning.

The four men and three women believed to be involved were arrested Tuesday morning in the Irish towns of Waterford and Cork under the provisions of the Criminal Justice Act.
