US criticizes Pak over murder charges against Osama doc Shakil Afridi

The United States has criticised Pakistan’s decision to bring murder charges against Dr Shakil Afridi, who helped the CIA track slain Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad.

State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki said Afridi’s assistance in confirming the location of bin Laden was a service to the entire world and to Pakistanis, who had lost loved ones and suffered at the hands of Al Qaeda, Dawn News reports.

Psaki called on proper authorities to ensure that Dr Afridi receives a fair trial for this new charge, the report added.

Pakistan”s Khyber Agency had registered a murder case against Dr Afridi on Friday for operating a patient without permit in 2007, which led to his death. (ANI)
