Hyderabad, March 14: In order to highlight its presence on the web and connect with the public, the US Consulate today officially launched their own social media platform at a mall in the city.
The consulate is already active on networking sites like Facebook and blogging sites twitter and blogger to provide information to its followers on issues of mutual interest to USA and India.
Speaking at the launch, Consul general Katherine Dhanani said that the social media was an effective medium to engage with all kinds of people and reach out to the young and new audiences. “It is informal and easy to use,” she said.
The Consul general also felt that social media platforms which attained popularity in the past few years, enable one to understand the public’s opinions.
“I enjoy blogging as it is the best way to reach out to the public and give my opinions on a variety of issues,” she said.
The consulate has been giving out information on a wide range of issues from education in the US and visa related queries to american foreign policy through the medium.
Krithiga Reddy, director of Online Operations and Head of Office Facebook India said that the company was delighted to support the consulate in this endeavour.
“Government organisations across the globe have used Facebook effectively to reach out and engage with people on various issues.” she said.
