US Congress reins in Trump; snatches away power to declare war against Iran

Washington: The US House of Representatives has unanimously approved an amendment to the US 2019 National Defense Budget. The amendment bans any declaration of a war on Iran without the Congress’ approval.

Democrat Keith Maurice Ellison, a Member of Congress from Minnesota’s Fifth District, proposed the amendment and was unanimously approved by other Democrat as well as Republican MPs.

Ellison in a message on twitter stated that the clear message of the amendment was that the people of America and members of Congress were not calling for a war on Iran. With the latest amendment, the Congress has regained the authority to use military force.

It must be noted that the amendment came two weeks after US President Donald Trump illegally pulled the US out of the nuclear deal with Iran, which was seen by the analysts as a declaration of war on Iran.
