Washington: The United States (US) on Tuesday congratulated India on becoming the newest member of the Australia Group.
“US congratulates India on becoming the newest member of the Australia Group, an informal forum that seeks to prevent proliferation of chemical weapons and biological weapons, and which now counts 43 members,” US State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert, said, in a statement.
The statement further said that India is a valued nonproliferation partner.
“We look forward to continuing our work with India in the Australia Group in furtherance of our shared nonproliferation goals,” it added.
Last week, India became a member of the ‘Australia Group’ (AG).
Following the entry, India became a member of the three of the four non-proliferation regimes- Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR), the Wassenaar Agreement (WA) and the Australia Group (AG).
However, India is yet to gain entry into Nuclear Suppliers Group
(NSG), where country’s bid has been repetitively stonewalled by a small group led by China. (ANI)
