Washington, August 05: The US has expressed concern over news reports that North Korea is helping the Burmese military junta achieve its nuclear ambition.
“It is an issue of concern to us. We are obviously looking into these types of reports,” State Department spokesman, Robert Wood, told reporters at his daily press briefing.
“We are concerned about any possible military links between North Korea and Burma, and that concern still remains,” Wood said. A similar concern was expressed by the US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, during her recent trip to Thailand.
This is for the second day in a row that the State Department publicly expressed its concern over such new reports appearing in the last few days.
“It is an issue of concern and it is an issue that we continue to focus on intensively,” the Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs, Philip J Crowley, said Monday.
Refraining from making any comment on the alleged underground nuclear facility being developed by North Korea inside Burma, Crowley said the US was concerned about the nature of cooperation between North Korea and Burma.
