Kabul, November 26: A US-based supply contractor’s helicopter has gone missing in Afghanistan while running errands for the international troops east of the country.
The helicopter belonged to the Virginia-based international contractor, Supreme Global Service Solutions, which provides food, equipment, fuel and complex logistical solutions in remote locations for a variety of operations worldwide.
The helicopter was flying around Kharwar district in eastern Logar province when it went missing.
“It’s missing, but that’s all we know right now,” AP quoted a NATO military spokesperson in Afghanistan as saying on Thursday.
There has been no further detail on the latest incident despite widespread search and rescue efforts by international military forces and local law enforcement agencies in the area.
The company’s agent has also refused to reveal the flight records.
Private contractors involved in the “reconstruction” and “security” of Afghanistan outnumber the US troops in the country as they reportedly provide the driving force of the local economy.
