US ambassador to visit Bhubaneswar slums

Bhubaneswar, April 06: US ambassador Timothy J Roemer will visit residents of Gyana Nagar slum here tomorrow to see implementation of a pilot project on water and sanitation, officials said.

During his two-day visit here, he is scheduled to meet Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and hold discussions with industrialists, they said.

The multi-stake holder project executed by Bharat Integrated Social Welfare Agency (BISWA) in partnership with USAID, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), state housing and urban development department, MSDF (USA)-PHEO, – the project has been an overwhelmingly successful experiment, they claimed.

Under the project, all households were given piped drinking water supply and sanitation.

Besides, it is also pursuing its vision to transform Bhubaneswar into an open defecation free (ODF) city through a City Sanitation Strategy (CSS), officials said.
