Noted Urdu short story writer and poet, Mr. Iqbal Mateen passed away at 9 a.m. yesterday at his residence “Happy Homes” in Upparpally. He was born on 2nd February 1929 in Ramkot. He was an associate of Dr. Raj Bahadur Gaur, Mr. Makhdoom Mohiuddin, Dr. Hosaini Shahid, Mr. Syed Mohammed Jawad Rizvi and Mr. Suleman Areeb. His first book “Ujli Parchayian” was published in 1960 which was awarded a prize from A.P. Sahitya Akademy. His other writings were given awards from Urdu Academy, A.P. and Urdu Academy, UP. A.P. Urdu Academy had given him the prestigious “Makhdoom Award”. He was rated among the top most Urdu short story writers but his literary life began with poetry. In Urdu short story writings, Mr. Iqbal Mateen held a unique and distinct position. In his demise, Urdu Literature lost one of its best writers.
