Maulana Azad National Urdu University expressed its deep sorrow on the death of Mr. Syed Hamid, former Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University. He was a noted Educationist and Intellectual. In his condolence message, Prof. Mohammed Miyan, Vice Chancellor of Maulana Azad National Urdu University said that Mr. Syed Hamid was associated with Urdu University right from its inception. He was the member of Mr. Aziz Quraishi Committee constituted by MHRD for the formation of Urdu University. He played a key role in the establishment of this university. When Urdu University was formed on 9th January 1998, he served as the member of its first Executive Council from 1998 to 2000. In the first convocation of Urdu University held in 2005, the then President of India, Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam awarded him honorary Doctorate Degree. Mr. Hamid was a true well wisher of Urdu University. His address on the occasion of the foundation day of Urdu University on 9th January 2009 is a testimony of it. In his intellectual address, Mr. Hamid had guided the University for its Development. It will always remain as the guiding principle for the University.
