Now that there are only 2 days left for the present Vice Chancellor to lay down his office, Ministry of HRD had started search for the new VC. Mr. Zafar Sareshwalla, Chancellor of Urdu University told to Siasat Urdu Daily in an exclusive interview that he has recommended the PM to select a personality as VC for Urdu Univeristy who is honest and has the competence to take the university to greater heights. On the one side, Ministry of HRD is making an effort to select the new VC and on the other hand, it is in favour of developing the University.
Mr. Zafar Sareshwalla told that he has not recommended to the Central Government for the continuation of the present VC. He also said that in the case the appointment of V.C. , he is totally impartial. However, he has communicated to the PM what kind of VC is required for the University.
Mr. Zafar Sareshwalla is the confidant of the PM. After assuming charge as Chancellor of Urdu University, he got an opportunity to know the affairs of the university. He wants that the previous irregularities should not be repeated. A person who could take the university to international standard should be selected as VC. He said that he would concentrate on the eradication of corruption in the University. He would fix the target for each department. The University officials would be made answerable to maintain transparency in all the matters. If need be, he would not hesitate to take stringent decisions. He further said that as Chancellor of the University, he is not authorized to interfere in the daily affairs of the University but he is not bothered about his powers. He knows how to make use of his powers. He also said that with the educational development of the Muslims, the other issues would automatically be resolved. He has been functioning in the university without any privileges. He has not taken any TA/DA so fat from the University. He does not travel at the expense of the university. He informed that on the occasion of recently held conference, he had made arrangement for the guests at his own expenses.
Mr. Zafar Sareshwalla lamented on the de – recognition of Graduation courses of Urdu University and said that it is not a good sign for the university that certain UG courses are not recognized in the country. He assured that he would make a representation to the UGC soon. He further informed that he wants to utilize the services of the educational experts for Urdu University. He is directly in contact with Dr. Mohammed Majeedullah, an educationist associated with Islamic Development Bank. In addition to this, negotiations are in progress with a noted Scientist of the country.
Authentic sources revealed that Ministry of HRD has refused extension to the present Vice Chancellor, but despite this, the sitting Vice Chancellor is making an attempt to get one of his confidants as the acting Vice Chancellor of Urdu University so that the irregularities could be covered up.
