Once again the domination of North Indians was established. Exerting pressure on the Central Government, Dr. Khwaja Mohammed Shahid was appointed as In Charge Vice Chancellor of Urdu University. He is the confidant of Prof. Mohammed Miyan who retired as Vice Chancellor on 13th May. He was successful in getting Dr. Shahid appointed as In charge Vice Chancellor whereas as per the university rules he does not possess the required eligibility condition. The interesting thing is Dr. Khwaja Mohammed Shahid took charge on the last day of functioning of Prof. Mohammed Miyan and a notification was issued with the signature of the In charge Registrar. Although, this notification was dated 13th May, it was circulated yesterday so that there should not be any obstacle in taking charge.
The exposures made by Siasat Urdu Daily in connection with the selection of In Charge Vice Chancellor proved cent percent correct. It is reported that as per the University rules, In charge Vice Chancellor’s responsibility is entrusted to the senior most Professor of the University but his seniority was overlooked and this responsibility was given the person who is very close to Prof. Mohammed Miyan. In order to avoid any legal complications, the lobby of North India was clever that it obtained a written statement from the senior most professor that he is not interested in the post of VC. The second senior most Professor is on leave whereas the 3rd Lady professor was successfully made to keep herself away from the post of VC.
University sources confessed that although Ministry of HRD has the authority to alter the University Mandate, the outgoing VC never wanted to get his irregularities exposed. An attempt was therefore made to appoint a person belonging to his State as In charge VC. It is reported that a person very close to PM played an important role in this case. Authentic sources indicated that Ministry of HRD had already finalized the extension of Prof. Mohammed Miyan one month back but after the exposure of the irregularities of the university, the Ministry of HRD changed its mind. It was therefore no opportunity of his extension the outgoing VC campaigned for the appointment of his confidant. He also completed the formalities for the appointment of his another close confidant as Registrar. Only orders have to be issued in this regard.
Although the former VC went away to his native place without informing any one, his supporters are making an attempt to invite him again for the valedictory and felicitation function. Normally, Valedictory function is held on the last of the outgoing VC but the teachers and the students were not mentally prepared for this. His supporters are therefore, planning to organize a function. A professor of Urdu University told that he got the information of the departure of the outgoing VC and the appointment of the in charge VC from siasat Urdu Daily. So far, Dr. Khwaja Mohammed Shahid was holding the responsibility of PVC and the in charge Director of other institutions.
Discussions are going on in Urdu University that how long would the in charge VC continue? and when will the Central Govt. complete the process of the appointment the new VC. According to authentic sources of Urdu University, In charge VC was appointed on the recommendation of the outgoing VC. It is also being expected that the search committee constituted for recommending the name of the new VC would finalize the names within 2 months for submission to the Central Govt.
Before his departure, the outgoing VC targeted many persons and for this purpose, support was sought from the persons who are holding important positions in the university without possessing the required qualifications. They were threatened by giving dismissal notices. They were forced to become witnesses. When these persons agreed to stand witness according to their wish, not only the notices were withdrawn, their services were regularized. The interesting thing is that even after Dr. Shahid taking charge as in charge VC, the website of the University still shows the name of Prof. Mohammed Miyan still figures as VC of Urdu University. It only shows the domination of North Indian and the supporters of Prof. Miyan.
