Urdu text on Rs 2000 notes reads ‘Lo Bazaar Rupaye’ instead of ‘Do Hazaar Rupaye’

Hyderabad:The freshly minted currency of Rs 2,000 has two errors in Urdu lettering as per Urdu scholars.

The writing reads “Lo Bazaar Rupaye” and not ‘Do Hazaar Rupaye’.

Deccan Chronicle quoted Moulana Syed Ghulam Samdani Ali Pasha, heads the Seerat-un-Nabi Academy saying,

“the first word ‘do’ (two) had been written in such a way that it is read as ‘lo’. “They joined the alphabets ‘dal’ and ‘vau’ so instead of ‘dal’ it appears ‘lam’. The entire word, and the meaning, changes to ‘lo’ instead of ‘do’”.

Moulana Ali Pasha said. “The second word ‘hazaar’ (thousand) has a dot underneath the ‘ha’, so it is read as ‘bay’, making the word ‘bazaar’ instead of hazaar’.

Times of India quoted U Mohamed Khalilullah, aChennai based Urdu scholar and chartered accountant saying,

“It has been printed wrongly. When there is a lot of confusion in the country now, whether the wrongly printed notes are valid or legal tender is to be determined.”

Also reported a printing error in the Devanagari script. The note supposed to be read ‘Do Hazaar Rupaiye’ instead got printed as ‘Don Hazaar Rupaiye’ twice.
