Lahore: Noted Urdu short story writer and novelist, Mr. Intezar Husain passed away in Lahore, Pakistan yesterday in a local hospital. He was 93. He was one of the topmost Urdu fiction writers. He was born at Buland Shaher, UP in India in 1923. After the partition of India, he migrated to Pakistan. He passed M.A. in Urdu from Punjab University, Lahore. After passing M.A., he joined journalism. His first collection of Urdu short stories “Gali Kooche” was published in 1953. He published 8 collections of Urdu short stories, 4 novels, 2 volumes of Autobiography and a novelette. He also published 4 collections of short stories in English. He was awarded many prizes in Pakistan, India, Middle East and Europe.
He was a staunch supporter of India-Pakistan friendship. Three decades ago he had visited Hyderabad to deliver an extension lecture in the office of Siasat Urdu Daily. He also participated in the annual function of “Zinda Dilan-e-Hyderabad”.
Mr. Mujtaba Husain, Prof. Baig Ehsas, Mr. Muztar Majaz, Mr. Qadeer-uz-Zaman and Mazher-uz-Zaman Khan condoled the sad demise of Mr. Intezar Husain and said that it is a great loss to Urdu loss and literature. The vacuum caused by his demise cannot be filled.
