According to the latest report of Registrar of Newspapers for India (RNI), with a combined strength of 938 daily newspapers, weekly and monthly magazines, Urdu print media i.e., newspapers and magazines stands third in the country in the list of print media. Urdu stands also stands third after Hindi and English in terms of circulation. According to reports during 2016 and 2017, circulation of Urdu papers was 3,24,27,000. Registered publications have also witnessed a growth rate.
According to the report, Uttar Pradesh topped the list of largest number of registered publications. Information & Broadcasting minister, Smriti Irani said that the publication was an important document to map the progress of the Indian newspaper industry in the last one year.
