Urdu newspapers present the issues of Muslim community

For any system to function smoothly, 3 thinks are essential: Judges should impart justice; Police should perform its duties honestly and the Journalists should exhibit impartiality but in our country everything is quite opposite. These thoughts were expressed by Mr. Mohamed Adeeb, Rajya Sabha M.P. yesterday while addressing a gathering of Staff and students of Maulana Azad National Urdu University on “Media, Minorities and Politics”. He further told that the university which is named after Maulana Azad should stand up to the ideals of the great Muslim leader who moulded the thoughts of the nation. He further told that when he reads Urdu newspapers he comes to know of the problems Muslim community is facing. Mr. Syed Faisal Ali, Group Editor of Rashtriya Sahara Urdu Daily in his speech alleged that Indian media is not bothered what is happening outside India. He said that Urdu Journalism played an important role in the freedom struggle of India. He gave the detailed examples of bias in Indian media.

Prof. Mohammed Miyan, Vice Chancellor of Maulana Azad Urdu University in his presidential address told that we should not confine our struggle to the discussions but we should also take active participation for implementing them. He said that reservations for Muslims in educational institutions and jobs are essentials. He lamented that the Muslim youths were detained in jails for a longer time without charge sheeting them and released when they were not found guilty.

Dr. Khwaja Mohammed Shahid, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Urdu University, gave a detailed introduction of Mr. Mohammed Adeeb and Mr. Syed Faisal Ali. Dr. Mohammed Fariyad, Asst. Professor of the Dept. of Communication and Journalism of Urdu University conducted the meeting. Mr. Hamid Ali Daar, a student of the Dept. of Communication and Journalism recited Quranic verses at the beginning of the function. A question, answer session was also held after the meeting.
