“Urdu language is the symbol of ‘Ganga-Jamuni’ culture”: Ex-PM Manmohan Singh

New Delhi: Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday attended the function organized to release of Ashwani Kumar’s book, “Ehsas-o-Izhar”.

According to the report published in Money Control, while addressing the gathering, Dr. Manmohan Singh said that Urdu is the symbol of ‘Ganga-Jamni’ culture. He also said that the participation of a large number of eminent persons is the evidence that Urdu is a living language. He further said that something must be done for it.

He said, “‘Hazaron jawabon se achhi hai khamoshi meri, na jaane kitne jawabon ki aabru rakh li”.

It is also reported that Mr. Hamid Ansari, former Vice President of India released the book. He offered the first copy of the book to Dr. Singh. In the function, Mr. T.S. Thakur, former Chief Justice of India was also present.

Mr. Thakur drew a parallel between the richness of Urdu culture and beauty of Taj Mahal and Qutub Minar.

He said, “Urdu is our language”. He further said that it was originated in our country. However, it did not receive support from the governments.

Other persons who attended the function were the senior politicians namely, Natwar Singh, Shivraj Patil, Kamal Nath, BJP leaders Mr. L K Advani and Mr. M M Joshi, former Chief Ministers, Farooq Abdullah, Sheila Dikshit, actress Shabana Azmi and others.
