People had high hopes that Urdu would be promoted during the TRS rule in Telangana. Mr. KCR and Mr. Mahmood Ali gave assurances in Assembly and Council that Urdu would be promoted. KCR made a speech in Urdu. It was expected that the other department would follow the footsteps of KCR but all these dreams were shattered when after TSPSC, Telangana Education Department, GHMC also removed Urdu from its logo. Hyderabad is the largest center of Urdu speaking population. Every second citizen of Hyderabad knows Urdu reading and writing. Despite this, GHMC removed Urdu from its logo which is incomprehensible. Recently, GHMC erected many sign boards at various places in the City. Urdu was not written on this board. Booklets and Pamphlets for Swach Hyderabad program was printed without Urdu. It seems that Commissioner of GHMC has bias with Urdu. He has neglected half of city’s population which pays huge amounts of taxes.
The most disappointing factor is that all the Urdu organizations are silent on this occasion. The societies and organizations which receive grants from Govt. for conducting Mushairas and for printing of books should raise their voice against this injustice. Urdu knowing persons who are part of the Govt. machinery have a responsibility to invite the attention of the Govt. to get Urdu included in all the logos of Govt. Departments.
