Hyderabad: Telangana Urdu Academy is planning a three-hour drama ‘Dastan-e-Telangana’ which will depict the history of Telangana, its poetry, culture and traditions besides a presentation on Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao and his schemes.
As reported by Telangana Today, as part of the centenary celebrations of Osmania University, the Minority Welfare Department in association with the Urdu Academy has decided to conduct a series of programmes during the next few months to highlight the contribution of Urdu language, which was the initial medium of instruction in the university.
Aiming to undo the glossing over of Hyderabadi culture during the recent inauguration of the centenary fest by the President, the proposed seminars, mushairas and dramas will bring out the rich literary traditions in the days gone by. The famous ‘Nizami tehzeeb’ was felt missing during the celebrations by the Hyderabadis.
A ‘tamseeli mushaira’ will be held in which the artists will don the costumes of poets of olden times who were all Osmanians, and will present the shayeri in their own style.
A play on the Qutub Shahi kings titled ‘Dastan-e-Golconda’ will also be presented. A ‘sham-e-ghazal’ is also proposed in which Pankaj Udhas or Adnan Sami is likely to be invited.
The Minority Welfare Department has submitted detailed proposals to the government. At least two programmes are proposed to be conducted before the month-end when Ramadan, the month of fasting, begins.
