Noida: Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force busted a fake insurance racket and arrested 40 people and sealed a call centre in Delhi, a police officer said today.
“Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force today sealed one call centre in Janakpuri Delhi and arrested 40 persons including 16 female,” UPSTF Additional Superintendent of Police Triveni Singh told PTI.
“One FIR was lodged at Khiri police station about cheating of Rs 18.50 lakh. Its investigation led us to Delhi.
“Nine companies were formed by the fraudsters to cheat the innocent people. So far we could detect Rs 12 crore,” Singh said, adding they had “agents in Noida too.”
On the basis of interrogation we are sending teams to other cities too where their operations were revealed, said Singh.
“They had one branch office at Patna and one at Lucknow.
They had formed 9 fake companies and had 200 phones on fake documents. How fake accounts were opened by banks will be probed,” he said.
“Their modus operandi was that they used to contact people for new insurance policy promising high returns and high pensions. Fake policies were issued to the buyers,” the officer said.
They also contacted those persons whose claims were pending in insurance companies and promised to get the claims approved and duped them,” added Singh.
