UPSC toppers remained inactive on social media during preparations

New Delhi: UPSC Civil Service 2018 results were released recently. A techie, Kanishak Kataria, from IIT Bombay, has topped the examination.

According to the report published in Indian Express, he disclosed that he had deactivated his Facebook and Twitter account during the preparation for the examination. Although, he was on Instagram, he checked it rarely.

Other toppers, Shreyans Kumat (AIR 4), Srushti Jayant Deshmukh (AIR 5) and Varneet Negi (AIR 13) did the same.

Surprisingly, Rahul Sharanappa Sankanur (AIR 17) avoided smartphone too during the preparation.

Another topper, Tanmay Vashistha Sharma, a 26-year-old IPS officer who secured 10th rank said that he used Facebook to keep himself update with current affairs from pages of newspapers. He also used to watch Rajya Sabha proceeding on YouTube.

Akshat Jain (AIR 2) used to be active in WhatsApp groups related to preparation for the examination. He also used to spend 5 minutes on Facebook.

It may be mentioned that 27 candidates who find their names in the ‘top 50’ list are engineers. Many successful candidates had abandoned their careers in the private sector to become part of civil service.

Kataria had worked with Samsung whereas, Kumat worked with Ernst and Young before deciding to become part of Civil Service.
