New Delhi, September 26: Bharatiya Janata Party official spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad on Sunday appealed to United Progressive Alliance Government not to play with the sentiments of four crore people of Telangana.
Participating as chief guest in the round-table conference organized by Telangana Joint Action Committee in New Delhi, Ravi Shankar said that the democratically elected government should respect the aspirations and sentiments of region people. “It is not good for government to water down the agitation with coercive methods,” he said.
Prasad said that the NDA government led by BJP announced Chattisgarh state as policy of smaller states convenient for administration purpose. Stating that BJP would support Telangana bill in parliament, he asked why Union Home Minister P Chidambaram made a statement in this regard on December 9, 2009 and now resorting to delaying tactics.
The BJP leader alleged the Centre using justice Srikrishna committee recommendations to buying time on Telangana issue. He lauded the Telangana activists for organizing the general strike and Rail Roko agitation in well mannered without resorting to violence. He said the government should respect the agitation and honour it promise given to Telangana leaders. He also slammed Speakers for keeping the resignations of elected leaders in abeyance.
Rajya Sabha member K Kesava Rao, TDP suspended MLA Nagam Janardhan Reddy and MP G Vivek also participated in the round-table conference.
