Ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, on Tuesday, a delegation of Muslim community leaders met Congress president and UPA chairperson at her home and enlightened her that the Congress led UPAII rule was an anticlimax.
While handing a memorandum of 12-pointdemands, they asked Gandhi to add in these in the party manifesto and commit itself to fulfilling them, in the absence of which they will call upon the community to vote for other secular parties.
As per Navaid Hamid, General Secretary, Movement for Empowerment of Muslim Indian (MOEMIN), said the delegation told Gandhi the members who representhalf a dozen organizations such as Jamiat-e-Ahle Hadith, Mumbai Aman Committee and Jamaat-i- Islami Hind, would support Congress if its demands are included.
“We have told Sonia Gandhi if her party wants the community’s votes, it should remove the perception that its concerns over arrest of thousands of innocents on trumped-up terror charges aredisregarded.Congress mustcommit to enacting Anti-Communal Violence Act without dilution,” said Dr Zafrul Islam Khan, who is the President, All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat.
