New Delhi, May 29: Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav today accused the Congress-led UPA government of humiliating DMK leader and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi over the 2G scam by arresting his daughter Kanimozhi and former Union Communication Minister A Raja.
Addressing a public meeting at Bewar town in Mainpuri district, the SP chief said the Congress had always conspired against leaders of rival parties in order to humiliate and politically weaken them. “The leaders of the DMK and other parties are being targeted only to make them fall in line and follow the dictates of the Congress,” Yadav alleged.
“I am also a victim of the conspiracy of the Congress. The CBI has booked cases of corruption against me and my family members,” he added.
Yadav was in Bewar to unveil a statue of Kargil martyr Manoj Yadav.
The SP leader, meanwhile, endorsed the demand of Muslim clergy for reservation in government jobs and accused the UPA government of ignoring the interests of the minorities.
“The social and economic status of Muslims is worse than the dalits, but still the UPA government has taken no steps for the upliftment of the minority community, though the Sachar committee and Ranganath Mishra commission had recommended affirmative action for the Muslims,” said Yadav.
He told his party supporters that they should prepare to capture power in 2012 on their own and not expect the Congress to support them in forming the next government. The Congress was never with the Samajwadi Party, he added.
