‘UPA govt should clear doubts on Women’s Reservation Bill’

Lucknow, March 18: Former Haryana chief minister Om Parkash Chautala, said the UPA government should clear the doubts about the Women Reservation Bill after taking all political parties in confidence.

He was here to attend a function organised by the Punjab Press Club, Jalandhar, and made a donation of Rs 1 lakh to the club.

He endorsed the view of AICC chairperson Sonia Gandhi that a law should be enacted under which the chief election commissioner should be empowered to issue mandatory instructions to all political parties for 33 per cent reservation for women. All the parties who do not follow the norm should be de-recongnised.

He said there were a large number of women in the country who have not got their dues and this Bill was a good step.

He also said his party had supported the Bill in the Rajya Sabha and it will extend its support in the state Assembly also.
