Guntur (AP), January 10: The CPI-M today accused the Centre of pursuing “pro-rich” policies and said the UPA Government was trying to break the backbone of farmers.
Party leader Brinda Karat said farmer is the backbone of the country’s economy, but the UPA government was trying to break their backbone.
Referring to UPA goverment’s “boasting of excellent economic growth” she said the growth benefited only big companies while the farmer has been reduced to destitution.
Speaking at a public meeting of the AIKS here Karat said while the government offers huge packages to bail out big companies in distress, it finds no money to go to the rescue of the flood victims in the country.
Karat alleged that the violent activities of Maoists and Trinamool Congress in West Bengal were with the “blessings” of the UPA Government.
