Hyderabad, August 05: The TDP chief, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, has said that the Congress-led UPA government has brought disgrace to the nation by allowing corruption in organizing the Common Wealth games.
Talking to newsmen here on Wednesday, he said that the Central Vigilance Commission has clearly pointed out that the organizing committee of the games had indulged in corruption on a large scale. He said this has brought shame and disgrace to the nation in the world.
Mr. Naidu said it is a disgrace that various complexes could not be completed as of today, though it was decided that the games would be held in India seven years ago. Stating that India should learn lessons from China, he said world’s best sports facilities were created by the country in just-two-and-a-half years. They even made their own athletes use the facilities for the trials, before handing them over to the Olympic organizing committee, he pointed out. Mr. Naidu has mentioned about reports saying that the roof of the weight lifting auditorium built for the Commonwealth games in New Delhi, started leaking on the very day of its inauguration.
Stating that Rs. 10,000 crores was being spent for the games for sports facilities and laying of roads, construction of hotels and other facilities, he said the Congress rulers had not even the thought that they could turn New Delhi into a world class city with those funds.
Mr. Naidu has reminded how his government has organized the National Games and by organizing the games in the best possible manner, got the opportunity to host the Afro-Asian games. “We even urged the President and the Prime Minister to stake our claim for hosting the Olympics,” he said.
T ISSUE CREATED BY CONGRESS
Mr Naidu said the Telangana issue was created by the Congress party and hence it should solve it. Claiming that there was development of the Telangana region only during the TDP rule, he said he was ready to discuss the matter with the Congress on any forum.
Alleging that the Congress party was responsible for the creation of the Telangana tangle by its negligence of the region, he has questioned the party how it would resolve if north and south Telangana regions bifurcation issue arose. He has mentioned the dispute between two villages in Karimnagar district on water sharing and said soon such disputes would arise between different regions and sub regions if uniform development was not achieved.
