Haider Khan, journalist in Pilibhit district of UttarPradesh was severely assaulted by a group of men and then tied to a motorcycle and dragged for almost 100 metres.

Khan was attacked allegedly for his report on dubious land deals. He is in hospital in critical condition.

“Yesterday around 6 pm I got a call that the eye witness in a robbery case has met with an accident and I should come to rescue him. When I reached at the spot I was surrounded by some three-four people. They then started beating me up and hit me with a revolver on my head and dragged me for 100 meters from a car,” the journalist said.

A case against four people was registered and hunt is launched to trace them.

“We have registered a case against four people,” said JK Shahi, Pilibhit’s superintendent of police. He said a group of people were unhappy with a report done by Khan.

The attack on Haider occurred a fortnight after another journalist, Jagendra Singh, sustained critical burn injuries during a police raid on his home in Shahjahanpur district.
