Hyderabad: Even after 70 years of Indian Independence, the practice of untouchability still continues. In one such incident, discriminating attitude was observed when the meeting of Gram Panchayat was held at Pedari Pahad Village of Maddur Mandal of Warangal District.
The sarpanch of the Gram Panchayat who belonged to Dalit community was forced to sit on the floor while the members of the forward community were sitting on the chairs during the meeting.
The photograph of this event went viral. Leaders of VPS, DBSV, DYFI and other organizations went to the village and registered their protest.
According to the details, Sarpanch Balaiah belongs to Dalit community. During the meeting of the Gram Sabha, he was asked to sit on the floor. It is a big question mark on the functioning of democracy in India.
The leaders of various organizations submitted a written representation to the Dy. Collector and demanded high level probe.
District Secretary of DYFI, Mr. Mahmood Ali, State President of Telangana Maala Mahanadu Yojana, Mr. Srinivas also contacted National SCs Commission and demanded investigation.
