Unrest continues in MANUU as students form JAC

In view of deteriorating scenario on the campus of Maulana Azad National Urdu University following organized attacks allegedly by men associated with former Vice-Chancellor and the administration on peaceful protesters on Saturday, an emergency meeting of the office bearers of the three recognized associations i.e. MANUUTA, Officers’ Association and MEWA met and constituted a “Joint Action Committee (JAC)”.

The JAC leaders said that the aim of this committee is to ensure action against those who employed violent means and instigated others as well as to restore peace and educational atmosphere on the Campus. “Be it known that the University Administration had invited the former Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mohammad Miyan keeping the whole MANUU community in dark without following proper procedures in a hurry. As soon as the news broke, teaching and non-teaching members of the University got agitated and organized a peaceful protest against the unilateral decision of the administration. A few members of the University who got the gifts of undue promotions and other benefits under the tenure of Prof. Miyan attacked and manhandled the peaceful protesters with the help of students misguided by them and some outsiders at the behest of the administration,” they alleged.

The JAC in its resolutions strongly condemned the above incident and demanded stringent action against those who instigated the students, promote the culture of violence and vitiate the academic atmosphere of the University. JAC demanded to set up a three-member independent and impartial committee to probe the incident and punish the guilty sternly. While demanding the removal of Registrar I/c, Provost, I/c Guest House, Media Co-ordinator, Chief Vigilance Officer, Proctor and Security Supervisors, the JAC also strongly advised the Vice-Chancellor I/c to resign from his post, owning moral responsibility of the incident.

They also demanded that Dr. Mohammad Fariyad and Dr. Pradeep Kumar be suspended as there are enough evidence that they instigated students against the peacefully and democratically protesting teachers and employees. While expressing concern over extra-ordinary delay in the appointment of regular Vice-Chancellor, they decided to write letters to the MHRD, PMO, UGC and FEDCUTA, Visitor, Chancellor requesting them to do the needful as soon as possible.

The JAC also organized a massive peace march on the Campus to resolve the issues in which more than 500 members of teaching and non-teaching staff participated and reiterated their resolve to make their sincere efforts to ensure peaceful academic atmosphere on the Campus. (INN)
