Unprecedented security in place for Ganesh immersion

Hyderabad, September 04: About 15,000 policemen will be deployed across the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secuderabad for the final Ganesh immersion procession to be held on September 11.

Briefing the media about the security arrangements for the Ganesh procession, City Police Commissioner AK Khan said the elaborate security arrangements are being made to ensure the peaceful conduct of procession. About 15,000 policemen, including 6,000 Home Guards will be deployed on the bandobust duties. Over 10 lakh people are likely to participate in the final procession wherein about 12,000 idols are expected to be immersed in Hussain Sagar Lake.

Besides 80 platoons of Andhra Pradesh Special Police and 37 platoons of Armed Reserve, the security contingent will have 13 Additional SPs, 76 DSsP, 123 CIs, 467 SIs, 17 WSIs, 755 HCs, 3733 PCs, 116 WPCs, 2375 HGs and 240 WHGs. In addition, 40 officers of the rank of SP and above have been deployed to supervise the bandobust arrangements.

All the Units of Hyderabad City Police including Law and Order, Traffic, Special Branch, Task Force, City Security Wing, City Armed Reserve have been pressed into service in making security and bandobust arrangements.

The forces have been for bandobust for Ganesh pandals, Mosques, important junctions, immersion points and other places of requirement.

Apart from deployment of force of Hyderabad City Police, about 10,300 policemen, including 2600 Home Guards, from all over the State has been deployed in the city since September 1st. In addition 3 Coys of Rapid Action Force and 31 Coys of CPMF are also being deployed.

AK Khan said the as many as 274 hyper sensitive and 546 sensitive places have been identified for which pickets have been posted. A total of 383 mobile parties are moving in the area for smooth conduct of the Ganesh festival. The City Security Wing of Hyderabad City Police is deploying 35 Bomb Disposal Teams and 40 Access Control Teams at important Ganesh Pandal and Ganesh Temples. They are equipped with DFMDs, HFMDs, Prodder, Deep Search mine detector, under carriage mirror, explosive detector etc. The Anti-Sabotage Teams will be using the services of 30 Sniffer dogs.

The City Security Wing of Hyderabad City Police is also utilizing the services of 80 Special Police Officers (Ex. Army Men) in their anti-sabotage checks. Other anti-sabotage measures like Vehicle checking and frisking at entry points to the City and at important junctions and checking at important crowded places viz., Railway Stations, Bus Stations, Shopping malls, Cinema Halls, Hotels, Restaurants etc., are being undertaken.

For Ganesh immersion, the city police have identified the need for 40 static cranes. While 23 cranes would be deployed at Tank Bund 12 will be placed at the NTR Marg, two at Ministers Road and one each at Miralam Tank, Rajanna Bowli and Errakunta Tank. Further 50 more Mobile cranes would be pressed into service on the the final immersion day.

The City Police Commissioner said that surveillance has been kept on the communal offenders and stern action is being taken against them for any attempts to disturb the communal harmony. He warned that stern action would be taken against those who make provocative speeches or circulate CDs, phamplets, SMSs or MMSs.

The entire procession would be covered by more than 1000 video cameras and some other electronic gadgets like wireless surveillance cameras who will be monitored on a real time basis from Control Room.

AK Khan has appealed all to maintain the communal harmony and brotherhood uphold the great traditions of the city of Hyderabad.
