Unnao Rape: This is not the first time Atul Singh is accused in a crime

Unnao, Uttar Pradesh: Brother of BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, Atul Singh has been accused and arrested in connection with allegedly gang-raping an 18-year-old woman and death of her father while in custody of police. Atul Singh was reportedly pressing the victim’s father to take back the case. Her father was allegedly thrashed on April 3 and died on April 10 morning.

However, this is not the first time that Atul Singh has been accused of a crime. In 2004, he had allegedly shot the then Additional Superintendent of Police Ramlal Verma, near the police station. A case was filed against Atul Singh in the Gangaghat police station when Verma got seriously wounded.

Atul Singh was also accused of shooting journalist Vipin Gupta’s father in Kanpur. He was jailed after he was allegedly found involved in a dispute over the occupation of a house in Kanpur’s Ghantaghar area. In July 2013, Singh’s arrest was ordered by the then Collector Alok Rai, as a rifle was found in his possession along with accusations of “propagating terrorism” at the Ghantaghar intersection.

The Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday handed over the Unnao rape case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
