Hyderabad: University of Hyderabad Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Ravindra Kumar on Monday said the mother of scholar Rohith Vemula, who had committed suicide last week, presently being treated at a hospital here after she complained of chest pain has been kept under observation.
Rohith’s mother, who has been demanding an inquiry into the suicide of her son after he was punished by the varsity allegedly for attacking an activist of a rival union, was hospitalised late on Sunday.
University of Hyderabad Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Ravindra Kumar told ANI that Vemula’s mother has a history of hypertension and added that her ECG reports were not normal.
“Last evening around 8 o’ clock, she had come to our health centre. She had chest pain. We did ECG. She had hypertension problem from the beginning. Since this is a heart case, we sent her reports to a nearby cardiologist in a multi-speciality hospital. Even they thought that she must be kept in observation,” he said.
“She is currently in the ICU. At around 11 o’ clock, the chief cardiologist will check her. Further opinion will come thereafter,” he added. (ANI)
