New York: United Airlines who have reportedly canceled its flights to Delhi last week due to bad air quality has resumed its flights from Newark, New Jersey to New Delhi on Sunday.
UA Flight 82 had been canceled on Friday and Saturday, data from flight-tracking website FlightRadar24 showed, while the airline’s website said it had waiver policies in place for passengers traveling to, from or through Delhi until Monday.
A UA Flight 82 which was canceled earlier has resumed operations, but “we will continue to monitor conditions over the next few days”, said the airline spokesperson.
The airline’s spokesman had earlier told that the third-largest US carrier airlines is monitoring advisories and coordinating with respective government agencies as the national capital remains under threat for bad air quality.
The Delta Air Lines Inc and American Airlines Group Inc said they do not operate flights to New Delhi whereas other several Asian airlines contacted by Reuters said their flights have not been canceled.
Verisk Maplecroft, a risk consultancy, New Delhi ranks among world’s top ten most polluted and bad air quality cities.
Richard Hewston, Verisk Maplecroft’s global head of environment and climate change said, “At the national level, India tops the index rankings (i.e. the country with the worst air quality), followed by Bangladesh and Thailand.”
Delhi’s PM measure on Monday morning was around 481. The outer limit of “good” air quality is 50.
